One of American Country Music’s biggest living legends and last year’s winner of the Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement is set to entertain Derry fans this spring.
Charley Pride has enjoyed one of the most successful careers in the history of music and is breaking off from his ’50 Years of Hits’ concert tour in America to appear with his long-time friend and fellow songster, Daniel O’ Donnell, at Derry’s Millennium Forum in May.
Having appeared only once previously at the Forum in 2009, this will be Pride’s first appearance on TG4 television’s highest rating country music show, Opry le Daniel
Having sold tens of millions of records worldwide with his large repertoire of hits, a three-time GRAMMY® award winner and GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement recipient, Pride has garnered no less than 36 chart-topping country hits, including ‘Kiss An Angel Good Morning’, a massive No. 1 crossover hit that sold over one million singles and helped him to land the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award in 1971 and the Top Male Vocalist awards of 1971 and 1972.
Some of Charley’s unforgettable hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s include ‘All I Have To Offer You Is Me’, ‘Is Anybody Goin’ To San Antone’, ‘Amazing Love’, ‘Mississippi Cotton Pickin’ Delta Town’, ‘Burgers And Fries’, ‘Roll On Mississippi’ and ‘Mountain Of Love’.
A proud member of the Country Music Hall Of Fame and Grand Ole Opry, Pride continues to perform concerts worldwide, touring the United States, Canada, Ireland, the UK, Australia and New Zealand over the last several years.
In 2016, Charley began working on recording with artist-songwriter, Billy Yates, acting as his new creative partner and producer.
Yates, a highly-acclaimed, traditional Country artist and songwriter, is renowned for penning ‘I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair’ and ‘Choices’ for the legendary George Jones, the latter of which helped Jones land a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. .
The magic of their collaboration is self-evident on MUSIC IN MY HEART, an unapologetically traditional Country album that marks a high-level return to form for Pride and features a wonderful array of songs from such highly regarded tunesmiths such as the late Merle Haggard, Whisperin' Bill Anderson, Tommy Collins, ‘Country’ Johnny Mathis, Ben Peters – ‘Kiss An Angel Good Morning’ - and Yates.
It features the songs ‘New Patches’, ‘The Way It Was In '51’ and ‘Standing In My Way’.
