PLANS FOR WATERSIDE STATION ARE A 'MEDIOCRE SHAM': 'WHY IS DERRY SETTLING FOR SECOND BEST?'

A TOP consultant says Translink's new plans for Derry's railway station will leave the building's once historic interior 'looking like an anonymous 1980s hospital corridor'.

Writing in Monday's Derry News, regeneration specialist Steve Bradley, warns councillors not to settle for second best - and calls on them to use their new planning powers to make sure the Waterside station is properly restored.

Mr Bradley said: "Instead of restoring the old station to its former glory - making it a building fit for a regional capital, and a place that the whole city could be proud of - we are being served up an unacceptably mediocre sham station designed purely to meet the needs of Translink. It is not enough for Derry to just say that it is a regional capital. It must also show that it is - in its buildings."
