Police in Derry are appealing for information after a car was stolen from a family home in the Carnhill area on Monday.
Jewellery and a sumer of cash were inside the car at the time it was reported stolen.
The car was later discovered on fire in the Bligh's Lane area of Creggan.
Police and representatives from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.
PSNI Sergeant Gary Breen said the car was stolen in the early hours of Monday morning.
“Police received a report at around 7:20am that a car - a red Citroen Picasso - had been stolen from a property in Carnhill. Jewellery and a sum of cash that were inside the car were reported stolen," he said.
"It’s believed the burglary occurred sometime between 3am and the time it was reported to police.
"Later that morning, just before 8am, police received a report that the same vehicle was alight in the Blighs Lane area."
He confirmed that the vehicle was completely destroyed.
"Officers attended the scene along with the NIFRS who extinguished the blaze," Sergeant Breen said.
“The vehicle was completely destroyed and the incident is being treated as a suspected arson at this time.
“We are appealing to for anyone who was in the Carnhill or Blighs Lane areas around these times and who may have seen any suspicious activity, or anyone who knows anything about these incidents, to contact police at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 163 of 12/02/18.
“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
Local Sinn Fein councillor Kevin Campbell said the burglars forced entry to the home to get the keys.
He said: "I have been contacted by a family member who has informed me that her mother's home was broken into this morning and the car keys were stolen along with other valuable items.
"This is someone's family car and absolutely disgraceful that someone would enter their home and steal their car.
"I would like to appeal to anyone that knows anything about this incident or has any information no matter how small please pass it on to the relevant authorities. These people need to be held to account for their crimes,."
