Derry man John Paul (JP) Coyle, who died suddenly at his Crawford Square home yesterday, will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Mr Coyle, who was 40 and was well known across the city, has been described as 'a gentle giant' of a man.

He is survived by his parents, Vincent and Jennifer, and his siblings, Jenny, Vinny, Charlotte, Maria and David.

His funeral will leave the family home, 59 Academy Road, on Thursday at 9.20am to St Eugene's Cathedral for Requiem Mass at 10.00am. He will be buried afterwards in the City cemetery.

Foyle MLA Mark Durkan said: "Big in stature and kind of heart, he always stopped for a chat and to share some of his positivity. Our thoughts and prayers are with the big fella's family and friends at this most difficult and sad time."
