A police officer has appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court charged with assaulting a man last year.
Howard Robinson, whose age and address cannot be provided due to his occupation, has been charged with assaulting a man on May 5, 2017.
A Public Prosecutor said the defendant works as a police officer in this jurisdiction and therefore District Judge Barney McElholm recused himself from the case believing it was ‘the best thing to do if there was any doubt’.
The defendant will contest the matter on April 25 and the case will be listed beforehand on March 2.
