A man was taken to hospital after being rescued from the River Foyle in the early hours of this morning.

Shortly before 12.15am, police activated the Foyle Search & Rescue’s (FSR) Emergency Response Team to reports that a person had entered the water.

Two FSR boats, a land crew and police helicopter were tasked to the scene.

The man was located a short time later and pulled from the water.

He was immediately administered first aid and transferred by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital.

He is the second person to be rescued from the river in the past week.

An 18-year-old woman was pulled from the water on Monday night last.

Last year, FSR volunteers rescued 13 people from the river.
