Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley today called on residents to take extra precautions against oil theft.
Cllr. McGinley said: "In recent days there has been a spate of oil thefts around the Hazelbank area and further afield.
"Those responsible for these crimes have no regard for the personal circumstances of their victims and the cost and inconvenience created. Whilst there are individuals about who pursue these criminal activities I would urge residents to ensure that their oil tanks are properly secured.
"If anyone is in need of oil locks or other home security equipment please contact myself with your requests. The more we protect our property the greater our ability to thwart the thieves who prey on our community."
