Derry's Nerve Centre to host special screening of Mad Max: Fury Road as part of 'Kick-Ass Female Action Heroes' event celebrating International Women's Day

This Thursday, from 7-9 PM in the Nerve Centre, will be hosting a very special event for International Women's Day.

The evening will begin with a talk from Dr. Carolann North, University of Ulster about KICK-ASS FEMALE ACTION HEROES, the theme for the evening.

From Foxy Brown to Wonder Woman, female action heroes have been kicking ass and handing out justice for over 50 years. But what makes a female action hero? This talk will look at the changing face of the fearless female, from sexy seductress to independent woman, and their role within contemporary feminist discussion.

Dr Norths talk will be followed by a screening of ‘MAD MAX FURY ROAD’, A woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in post-apocalyptic Australia in search for her home-land with the help of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshipper, and a drifter named Max.

Ones to Watch operate a Pay What You Want Model and admission will include a free refreshment to celebrate International Women's Day in style!

Funded by Film Hub NI, the Ones To Watch group programmes cinema screenings, training programmes and film production workshops for young people aged 17-25 years.

If you’re a student of film or just a film lover interested in hearing more about the iconic film directors of the late 20th century and early 21st century or even just seeing some trailblazers of cinema on the big screen then '​Screenshots​' is for you!

On Monday 12 March, 1-4pm, Ones to Watch will continue their Screenshots series b​y ​looking at the work of Martin Scorsese and the 70s Hollywood brat pack followed by a screening of​ the​ iconic​ and most quotable film of all time​ Taxi Driver.​
