People Before Profit (PBP) in Derry have described the ongoing incarceration of the Derry prisoner Tony Taylor as a 'complete abuse of state power'.

People Before Profit spokesperson Shaun Harkin said:"Tony Taylor should be released immediately.

"Tony has been incarcerated without trial or due process now for more than 700 days. This is an utter violation of basic civil liberties and a complete abuse of state power. It's internment without trial plain and simple. All progressives who support civil rights should speak out on this now.

"People Before Profit is enouraging people to join the protests being held in Derry and across Ireland tomorrow demanding the end of Tony's detention. Large numbers of people on the streets demanding Tony's release is the key way to send a message loud and clear to Secretary of State Karen Bradley that this will not be accepted.

"The people of Derry opposed internment in the past and will not accept it now."
