Foyle Search and Rescue take three people to safety in Derry after their vessel became stranded on the river

Volunteers from Foyle Search and Rescue were called into action on Friday evening after three people became stranded on the river after their vessel lost power.

The incident happened at 5.50pm on Friday, March 9, when Foyle Search and Rescue (FSR) received a phone call from a member of the public requesting assistance with a vessel located on the river foyle.

"The vessel concerned had lost power and had three persons onboard," a spokesperson said.

"Foyle Search and Rescue immediately dispatched a boat and land crew to the scene.

"Passengers on board the vessel were transferred to FSR Rescue boat and the vessel was secured and placed under tow being returned to FSR base at Prehen.

"FSR land crew then transported the crew members to acquire a trailer and assisted with the recovery off water.

"With all three persons safe on shore and the vessel recovered FSR volunteers were stood down."
