A man has been shot in the ankles during an attack in Derry.
The shooting took place in the Yeats Court area of Ballymagroarty at 3.30am this morning.
The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital but the extent of his injuries are not yet known.
PSNI forensic officers carried out an examination of the scene this morning.
SDLP councillor John Boyle condemned the attack.
“This sort of summary justice is just unacceptable in what is supposed to be an civilised society.
“This kind of attack only succeeds in bringing further trauma and heartache and as was evidenced in Belfast recently, the potential for death is very real.”
Sinn Fein councillor Eric McGinley said: “There can be no place in our society for such actions.
"Those behind this incident have nothing to offer the local community and need to stop these futile actions immediately.
“I would appeal for anyone with information on this shooting to bring it forward to the PSNI."
