An independent councillor in Derry has called for local schools to no longer allow what he described as 'British Armed Forces' access to their pupils.
Councillor Gary Donnelly is to table the motion at tomorrow's monthly meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council, to be held in the Guildhall.
The motion reads: "Given the history of British imperialism in Ireland, this Council calls on local educational facilities for children and young people to refuse British Armed Forces access to children/pupils as part of their attempt to glamourise/recruit for their imperialist ventures"
The PSNI has attended a number of recent events in local schools along with the Derry and Strabane Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP).
