A MARATHON charity Zumba class is set to take place this Sunday to raise funds for two local charities.
The 1980s themed fancy dress event is being run by local fitness instructor Josephine O’Connor for the Cancer Research Legenderry Relay for Life and La Dolce Vita domestic violence charity.
Josephine runs 14 Zumba classes across the city and last year her members entered two teams in the inaugural ‘Legenderry Relay for Life’.
The women managed to raise £7,000 between them and they hope to make an equally impressive contribution this year.
“The Relay for Life was a fantastic event,” said Josephine.
“We actually split into two teams because we had up to 25 people involved.
“It sounds daunting when you realise how much fund raising you have to do, but when you put your mind to it not hard at all.
“We ran a charity Zumbathon last year too and we had around 85 people turn up and it raised £1,000.”
Sunday’s event is open to everyone and promises to be great fun.
“I have two guest teachers coming and everyone is invited to come in 80s fancy dress if they wish,” said Josephine.
“We’ll even have some 80s tracks thrown into the mix.
“It’s suitable for people of all ages as long as they are over 16 and no previous Zumba experience is necessary.”
There will also be a raffle with a selection of prizes.
The charity Zumbathon is running from 1pm to 3pm at Lisneal College on the Cresent Link. Entry is £5
