Foyle Search and Rescue have tonight issued a statement to reassure the Derry public that a person seen in distress close to the river at teatime is safe and well.
A spokesperson said: "At 5:30 pm today Saturday 21st of April Foyle Search and Rescue responded to reports of a person in close proximity to the railings reported as appearing in distress. Two FSR mobile units who were in the vicinity responded arriving on scene with the PSNI within minutes. The person was then spoken to and removed from the area.
"Members of the public passing in vehicles observed this taking place and comments on social media imply that someone had entered the river. We would like to reassure the public that thankfully this was not the case and the person concerned is safe and well."
