A new project based on the lessons learned in conflict resolution in Derry will be launched in the Museum of Free Derry this coming Monday.

The conflict resolution project, the ‘Derry Model’, holds the city up as a beacon shedding light on how to deal with the issues that have arisen as a result of conflict.

The official launch on April 30 is by invitation only. At the launch, the Derry Model, which is the newest project of the Bloody Sunday Trust and funded by SeuPB - PEACE IV Funding, will describe how the programme will be delivered over the next four years.

The four core modules in the project are parading, legacy and justice, heritage and education and dialogue.

The initiative, which is described as a ‘Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding Project’ will support 600 people over the next four years by giving them an insight into how Derry handled and overcame problems the conflict presented to the city.

Maeve McLaughlin, former Stormont committee chair and Northern Ireland Assembly member for Foyle, will head up the project.

The first of our four study visits will take place in Derry in June 2018 and will cover the issue of legacy and justice marked by a celebration of the anniversary of the public apology made by David Cameron. The visit will also include visits to the Museum of Free Derry and the Siege Museum.
