The Ulster Unionist Group Leader on Derry City & Strabane District Council, Alderman Derek Hussey, has spoken about the sense of 'disbelief' that he has encountered in the wake of an assault in Strabane in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A 17-year-old male has been charged with GBH with intent following the incident, which left a 38-year-old woman critically ill in hospital. The male has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and theft.
Alderman Hussey said: " I congratulate the PSNI on the timely apprehension of a suspect and urge anyone with any information to ensure that every assistance is given to this investigation. It is vital that all citizens feel and are safe on our streets at any time of night or day, thus, the removal of those who would engage in any violence is to be applauded but can be greatly enhanced through full community co-operation with the lawful authorities."
