A number of local councillors has said they are ‘dissatisfied’ with the current levels of catering provided during meetings at both the Guildhall in Derry and the council offices in Strabane.

The findings were revealed as part of a Councillor Satisfaction Survey carried out Derry City and Strabane District Council, which was presented to the May meeting of its Governance and Strategic Planning Committee.

Out of the 40 councillors which currently sit on the local authority, a total of 36 replied, representing a 90 per cent return rate.

The report stated that the ‘average satisfaction rate’ among those who responded was 100 per cent.

However, two of the respondents stated that they were ‘dissatisfied’ the level of services provided during council meetings at the Guildhall, which included ‘heating, lighting and catering provision’.

The report also stated that one councillor was ‘very dissatisfied’ with the same services provided at the council offices in Strabane.

It comes after the Derry News revealed in February concerns that the biscuit provision at council meetings held in Strabane were superior to that of Derry.

The issue was raised at a meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Environment and Regeneration Committee, held in Strabane.

The two councils merged in 2015 under the Review of Public Administration (RPA), with the meetings now split between the Guildhall Chamber and the council offices at the Derry Road in
Strabane.

At the meeting, it emerged that at committee meetings held at the Strabane council offices, three biscuits are contained in the single packets which are provided along with the tea and coffee.

The biscuits provided include shortbread, digestives and bourbon creams.

However, it was then pointed out that only biscuit is contained in the biscuits provided at the Guildhall meetings, which prompted shouts of ‘Inequality’ from one local councillor.
