Sinn Féin Cllr for Limavady Brenda Shivers had been selected as Sinn Fein’s candidate to become the next Mayor of Causeway Coast and Gens Borough Council.
And Cllr Shivers told the Derry Post it’s an “honour and privilege” to be put forward as the potential next first citizen of the borough.
Cllr Shivers said: “It’s a great honour and a privilege at any stage to be selected by your party colleagues to stand for Mayor and I would like to thank them for their continued support.
“The people of this council area are our greatest asset and if elected, I will work daily to promote and create new opportunities for everyone right across the region.
“If elected I will strive to be a Mayor for everyone, providing civic leadership to all and promoting partnership-working, respect, inclusive politics and equality across the council area.
Current Mayor, Cllr Joan Baird of the UUP, vacates the role at the end of May.
