TEENS FOUND BEHIND BEER KEGS INSIDE BURGLED DERRY BAR, COURT HEARS

Two teenagers charged with burgling a bar in Derry were yesterday remanded in custody at the city’s Magistrates Court.

A police witness told the court that the PSNI were tasked to Rafters on the Northland Road on Monday, after a witness observed two males breaking a window and gas meter.

Upon entry they found the teenagers ‘hiding behind bar kegs in the cold store’, and they were subsequently arrested and charged.

During interview, the older of the two, 19-year-old Tiernan Martin said he went inside for ‘shelter’ to ‘smoke some grass’ and get ‘out of sight of the IRSP’.

The judge said the prosecution case couldn’t get much stronger and a ‘custodial sentence was very, very likely’.
