A Derry judge has said he is 'concerned' at the number of cases of domestic violence that are being withdrawn.
He was speaking after charges of assault against Alfred Thomas Britten (64) of Pine Street in Derry were withdrawn without explanation.
Judge McElholm said that he was concerned that so many cases of domestic violence were being withdrawn 'despite the efforts of everyone'.
He queried why there was no body worn footage available and asked would the body worn cameras on police officers not be turned on as soon as the officer gets out of a vehicle.
The judge said the decisions to withdraw charges were not being explained and he added that he would be contacting the prosecutorial department.
He added: "I am not criticising this particular decision but I do feel there are questions to be answered not least about body worn camera footage."
He added that this would be one of the issues he was going to raise with the PPS.
