Josh Daniels’ second goal for Derry City earned the Candy Stripes a 2-1 win over Drogheda United in their FAI Cup second round replay at United Park tonight.
City got off to the perfect start against the Airtricity First Division outfit when leading scorer, Rory Patterson, fired home a free kick in the fourth minute.
However, the Strabane man – who had been a doubt before the game – was forced off with an injury in the 15th minute, Ronan Curtis the replacement.
Daniels (pictured) got the winner in the 55th minute when he curled the ball past Stephen McGuinness from an acute angle.
In tonight’s other second round replay Ulster Senior League outfit Letterkenny Rovers were beaten 1-0 by Airtricity First Division side Athlone Town, Alan O’Sullivan scoring the goal four minutes form the end of extra time.
