DUP's McClintock to be next 'Super Council' Mayor

The DUP’s Hilary McClintock is set to become the next Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council.

She will take over the top post from Sinn Fein’s Elisha McCallion at the Council’s annual general meeting scheduled to take place on Monday week, 6 June.

From Drumahoe, Alderman McClintock (pictured) has worked in Community Development with the Waterside Area Partnership for 13 years, having previously been employed at the Western Education and Library Board’s Woodlands Language Unit for 15 years.

A former pupil of Foyle College, she is an elder in the Presbyterian Church.

Standing in the Waterside electoral area, she was elected onto the “Super Council” in May 2014 ahead of it coming into operation on 1 April last year.

It will be the first time the mayoral position on the local authority will be held by a woman for third successive year.

2005-06 – Lynn Fleming (Sinn Fein)
2014-15 – Brenda Stevenson (SDLP)
2015-16 – Elisha McCallion (Sinn Fein)
