Ten-man Oxford defeated their city rivals Trojans 2-1 in the final of the Intermediate League’s Challenge Cup played at Brandywell tonight.
Oxford got off to the perfect start when Adrian Doherty fired home after an effort rebounded off a post.in the second minute.
David Healy doubled the advantage when he headed home a Lee Toland corner in the 15th minute.
Darren McFadden set up a thrilling last 20 minutes when his effort from the edge of the penalty area was deflected past Oxford keeper Keelan McCallum.
Oxford were reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute when Kevin Roddy was shown a second yellow card by referee Paul Doherty for kicking the ball out of the ground after a free kick was awarded against him for handball.
Trojans created several chances in an exciting finish but were unable to find an equaliser.
