A judge today questioned the story of a Derry man who claimed to have lost an electronic surveillance tag while out running.
The tag was placed around the ankle of 22-year-old Phillip O’Donnell as part of recent bail conditions.
However, Derry Magistrates Court was told today that the tag disappeared yesterday.
After being informed by the G4S security company that the tag was not responding, police arrived at O’Donnell’s home at Earhart Park to investigate.
He told them that the tag fell off his ankle when he was out jogging.
“He does not look like a jogger to me,” said District Judge Barney McElholm during today’s court hearing.
O’Donnell was charged with the theft of the tag which was valued at £229.
His curfew hours were today also extended to cover the hours from 8pm to 7am.
The case was adjourned until July 7.
