A gang of teenagers is being blamed for a night of destruction and crime in Derry.
A number of premises, including a church, were broken into during an overnight crime spree in the Ballymagroarty and Galliagh areas of the city on Thursday night-Friday morning last.
As well as money a car belonging to a monk was also taken.
Local people say a small gang of young people are behind the crime wave and added they do not know what to do to stop them.
Among the premises broken into were: Ballymagroarty Community Centre, Rafters Bar, Dunelm Mill and St Joseph’s Chapel (pictured) in Galliagh while there was an attempted break-in at the Spar Store in Galliagh.
Money was stolen and there was extensive damage to some of the premises.
There were attempted thefts of vehicles and an actual theft of a car in Ballymagroarty and a car belonging to Franciscan Friars at St Joseph’s Chapel, Galliagh.
A 16-year-old boy appeared at Derry Magistrates Court on Saturday morning in connection with the incidents.
He was charged with five counts of burglary, aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to the vehicle, two counts of theft, three counts of criminal damage, assault on police and interference with vehicles.
Two other males, aged 15 and 20, were also arrested by police investigating last week’s incidents.
