A Derry councillor has called for the local council to again look at the issue of facilities for those visiting the area in camper vans and mobile homes.
The SDLP’s Shauna Cusack made the comments during a meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Business and Culture Committee.
Cllr Cusack, who chaired the meeting, said she wanted to take the opportunity to raise the need for more provision for both mobile homes and camper vans ahead of what she described as a ‘lot of fantastic events’ coming up in the city.
Additional provision was made for visitors using camper vans and mobile homes during the Fleadh Cheoil in Derry during 2013.
Huge numbers are expected to flock to the city for the Foyle Maritime Festival.
The festival will run from July 9 – 17 and is being organised to celebrate the stop-over of the fleet from the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Cusack said visitors using such vehicles needed ‘somewhere that fits their needs’ with associated amenities, adding that she was aware council was working on a ‘number of things’ in relation to the issue.
