It is full steam ahead for exciting plans for a disused railway museum in Derry.
The Foyle Valley Railway Museum has been closed for a significant period of time.
However, local charity Destined recently received a grant of £1m to transform the Foyle Street building into the North West Learning Disability Centre.
Plans are now proceeding for the work.
A Destined spokesperson said today: “We have been successful in our bid to secure a £1m package from the Space and Place Flagship fund and we have agreed the terms of a 50 years lease on the Railway Museum with Derry City and Strabane District Council commencing on the 1st of July.
“We intend to move into the existing building and are hopeful that we will have a design team appointed by September for the new build.
“We have set March 2018 as the construction completion date.
“I wish to thank everyone for your support and help getting us to this stage of the development of this culture changing project.”
