Derry City and Strabane District Council is to look at setting up a ‘fanzone’ for the remaining Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland matches at the Euro 2016.
It comes after former Mayor Elisha McCallion raised concerns at a council meeting today over why the matches weren't being shown on the big screen at Waterloo Place.
She told the council’s Business and Culture Committee meeting that it was 'regrettable' matches weren't being shown as the 'equipment is there' and council should be scoping out setting up a fanzone now for all remaining Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland games, plus the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the competition.
The SDLP's Brian Tierney shared her concerns, saying he was a 'bit jealous' watching TV footage of the fanzone in Belfast.
Stephen Gillespie, Strategic Director with the council, told the meeting that the fanzone could be done for the remainder of the Euros and council will now cost it.
