An English couple today appeared before a Derry court charged with being concerned in the supply of drugs into Northern Ireland.

Kelly and Ross Brennan, who are both in their 30s and have an address in Exeter, appeared before Derry Magistrates Court charged with being concerned in the supply of Diazepam, conspiring to supply the drug, possession of the drug with intent to supply and concern in its supply.

The offences are said to have taken place between October last year and June this year.

A police officer in court said that it was a ‘very complicated and complex matter’.

She said that in February, packages of Diazepam had been intercepted in Derry by Royal Mail addressed to two men since charged with drugs offences.

Both of the defendants made admissions in police interview to supplying Diazepam on a large scale to Northern Ireland and it was estimated that six packages were posted in the last six days, some of which may still be in the postal system.

District Judge Barney McElholm released the pair on their own bail of £1,000 each to reside at their address in Exeter and report to police there three times weekly.

The matter is back before the court on July 14 but the defendants are excused from attending.
