World traveller and video producer, Aleksandr Rikhterman, is due in Derry today as he hitchhikes his way across the island of Ireland to film a pilot for a new travel show.

Rikhterman (pictured) travelled through 14 countries to film his first award winning travel series, “A Solo-Traveler’s Guide To: The World”. In April last year.

The fifth episode, “A Solo-Traveler’s Guide To: Cambodia,” was awarded first place in the unscripted/reality series category at the Television Academy Foundation’s College Television Awards.

While each country was unique, the process of taking public transit, meeting people in hostels, seeing the sights, and then neatly summing everything up became routine.

Speaking of his trip around Ireland, he said: “I want to experience the same nervousness and anxiety that I had before my first solo-trip.

“I want to push myself to the extremes of my comfort zone to learn more about what makes me, me.

“At the same time the people that pick me up and host me, will provide an insight into the extent of generosity and how it might easily extend to a stranger.

“Then after the trip, once the video is done, I hope people will see the world in a slightly more positive light, or at least just Ireland for now.”
