The failure to cut grass is leaving many junctions across in Co Derry ‘extremely dangerous,’ it has been claimed.

DUP councillor on Mid Ulster Council, Paul McLean, also hit out at the response he received from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) after he made a request for grass to be cut.

Cllr McLean said he contacted the Department after a number of complaints from members of the public only to be told that due to budget cuts, the Department had only been allocated funding for one grass cut- rather than the two normal cuts.

Councillor McLean said: “I have received complaints from the Moneymore and Magherafelt electorate that grass is not being cut leaving junctions extremely dangerous.

“There seems to be a disparity in how this end of the constituency is being treated.”

Minister for Infrastructure, Chris Hazzard said a “significant part” of the recent announcement of an additional £28 million for his Department would be be used to improve rural roads and roads maintenance.

He added; “ I have now asked officials to immediately enhance grass cutting, gully emptying and the repair of potholes right across the North.”
