The Derry entry remains in contentin for the lead in the race from New York to its home port despite slipping back to third place.

On day seven, ClipperTelemed is now leading the fleet again as the race from New York to Derry reaches the half-way stage on leg 12.

Lmax Exchange is in second place with the Derry-Londonderry-Doire in third place, just under two miles behind the leaders.

Skipper Daniel Smith said: The day has been spent trying to keep our heavy boat moving in the lighter breeze as the wind has been easing off for us.

“We ended up sailing slightly east of course in order to miss some foul current but others have sailed through it and have been catching up so the current forecast may not be as accurate as we had hoped.

“For now it is a case on working hard on trim to try and get all the miles we can out of the boat while this wind hole becomes established.

“Concentration, tactics and a large amount of luck will decide which boats start moving first. However that may be some time yet.”

The fleet is due to arrive in Derry between July 7 to 11.
