Derry firefighters responded to two fires at two separate homes in the same street within an hour of each other last night, it has emerged.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said both fires at Rinmore Drive in Creggan were accidental and no one was injured.
Independent Councillor Gary Donnelly, who attended the scene, said: “Thankfully, no one was injured.”
A spokesperson for the NIFRS said the first blaze was reported at 7.56pm.
The spokesperson added: “Two fire appliances from Northland Fire station were deployed to the scene of a kitchen fire at a mid-terraced house in the area.
“Firefighters using breathing apparatus and a hosereel jet dealt with the incident.
“There were no reports of any injuries as a working smoke alarm actuated and alerted the occupants.”
The spokesperson added a call about the second blaze was received at 7.56pm.
