CCTV cameras are to be installed at Derry City Cemetery in an attempt to stop anti-social behaviour.
It follows the destruction of headstones in the graveyard at the weekend, the third such incident in three months.
The move has been welcomed by the Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Dr Donal McKeown.
Speaking on BBC Radio Foyle this morning, he said: "We need the CCTV cameras and I agree with that.
"Anything that will enable people to feel the cemetery is a safe place to go is very important."
Derry City and Strabane District Council said it would be bringing in a security firm to carry out patrols in the cemetery.
Sinn Fein Councillor Kevin Campbell said temporary CCTV cameras would be operational from as early as next week.
