Derry City Council has voted to back the campaign to remain in the European Union
It follows a motion put before the Council this afternoon by SDLP Cllr Shauna Cusack (pictured) calling on the Northern Ireland Executive to ensure the will of the people of Northern Ireland was “accurately” represented in relation to the European Union.
.
In last month’s referendum, just over 78% of the electorate in the Foyle (Derry) constituency voted to stay in the EU, the result being - Remain 32,064, Leave 8,905.
Cllr Cusack’s motion was passed with the full support from the SDLP and Sinn Fein.
Two Independent candidates at the meeting abstained while one Independent Unionist and all unionist councillors voted against.
