A new group has been set up to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Ballymagroarty area of Derry.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Ballymagroarty Community Empowerment (BCE) says it has been set up to “bring awareness” to members of the community that there is “help” available to them when it comes to anti-social behaviour in the area.
The group plans to stage a protest walk around the estate this weekend similar to those in the Galliagh area where organisers there, Galliagh Community Empower, claim the initiative is proving successful.
The BCE statement adds: “We are taking inspiration from the group set up in Galliagh a few weeks ago and how successful it has been tackling anti-social behaviour.”
“We are looking for volunteers in Ballymagroarty to take part in a walk about the area this Saturday evening, just like they did in Galliagh, to show support to our neighbours that we will not accept anti-social behaviour anymore in the area.
The statement adds a time has not been arranged but it would be posted tomorrow.
The statement concludes: “All are welcome to come along and show support for the Ballymagroarty area.”
Residents in the Creggan area of the city met earlier this week to discuss ways of tackling anti-social behaviour there.
