Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said being dragged out of the EU would hit border communities particularly badly.
Ms Anderson was speaking after meeting members of the Confederation of Community Groups to discus the potential impact of the EU referendum.
She said: "The border region has suffered immensely as a result of partition and any hardening of the border will only have a negative impact on the lives of people who live, work and study in the area.”
Ms Anderson (pictured) concluded: "The people of the North voted to reject that and I would encourage all interested groups to raise their voices to ensure the democratic wishes of the majority who voted to remain are respected."
