Children’s toys were among items stolen and set on fire in the Shantallow area of Derry at the weekend.

The incident occurred at Drumleck Drive on Friday night.

A doll’s pram taken form a nearby garden and two children’s bikes were among the items destroyed.

The Shantallow Residents’ Association has appealed to parents to help prevent such incidents reoccurring.

A message on the Facebook page says: “We have been working with a particular group of young people over the past few months who have been lighting fires in the nearby ‘Donkey Field’ - but this is much more serious - it was on the main road and children’s toys were stolen and destroyed.

“We would ask parents, particularly those who know their children hang around this area, to help us to stop this getting out of hand and stop their children getting into trouble.

“If anyone out there knows who did it, please let us know. pm for contact details.

“Also - Thank you to the lads from TEAMWORKS who went over to clear up the mess.”
