A woman who cycled 2,500kms to raise money for a charity close to her heart this week finished her journey in Derry.

Marie O’Connor, from Limeick, set from Kinsale in County Cork to cycle around the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ along the west coast of Ireland.

The final port of call on her journey was Derry.

She took part in the challenge to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.

“I am fortunate to have the health and well-being to aspire to undertake this challenge in aid of people who may not be in as fortunate a position,” she said.

“It is from personal experience that I find my inspiration to undertake this mammoth cycle along the western coastline of Ireland.

“My father, John, has multiple sclerosis and from his association with the MS Society I have seen the wonderful services and supports that are provided, helping people with multiple sclerosis throughout Ireland.”

After arriving in Derry, Marie was given a free night’s accommodation before travelling home – by car!

She thanked everyone who had supported on her trip which has raised around 11,000 Euro for the MS Society.
