Poignant discussion to be held in Derry on how medical staff dealt with the horrific aftermath of the Battle of the Somme

A talk on the vital role that medical staff played in the aftermath of the horrific Battle of the Somme will take place in Derry later this month.

Derry Central Library will host the discussion ‘Sisters, Surgeons and Soldiers on the Somme’ on Monday, August 22, at 6.30pm.

There will also be an illustrated presentation by Dr. Yvonne McEwen from the Centre for the Study of Modern Conflict at the University of Edinburgh.

Her talk will focus on the management of casualty of the battle in which thousands of soldiers were either killed or injured.

Admission to this event is free and everyone is welcome. Booking is advisable.
