Police investigation underway into arson attack at Derry primary school

A police investigation has begun into last night’s arson attack which damaged a Derry primary school.

Up to 30 firefighters from Crescent Link and Northland Road stations in the city, as well as Limavady, tackled the blaze at Good Shepherd Primary and Nursery School on Dungiven Road in the Waterside.

The fire was started at around 7.30pm in a wooden equipment shed and spread to the roof of the school building.

Appealing for information, Sergeant McKeever said: “I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1036 of 10/08/16.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
