Brexit would be hugely detrimental to the north of Ireland: McGuinness

Brexit would be hugely detrimental to the north of Ireland, Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Martin McGuinness has said.

Speaking today, the Deputy First Minister said the EU referendum result posed “huge and unprecedented challenges.”

Mr McGuinness (pictured) added: “In the up-coming negotiations we need to ensure that we defend and protect, to the best of our ability, the interests of the people we represent.

"Brexit is bad for business, bad for our agricultural and argi-food industries, bad for our young people, our universities, our community and voluntary sector and all Ireland development to name a few examples.

"The Sinn Féin position is clear - the democratic decision of the people of the north should be respected."
