Man taken to hospital after six-vehicle pile-up on main Derry to Strabane road

One man was taken to hospital following a six-car pile-up on the outskirts of Derry last night.

The collision occurred on Victoria Road (main Derry-Strabane road) shortly before 9.00am.

Three fire crews from Crescent Link station in the Waterside attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters used hydraulic equipment to release one man from one of the cars.

He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for treatment to injuries which are not thought to be serious.

Five other people were treated at the scene.

The road which had been closed between Prehen and City of Derry Golf Club was reopened several hours later.
