Two FSR boats and a land crew were were despached and on arrival at the scene spotted a man in the water.
After being rescued he was taken to FSR headquarters at Prehen where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to the A&E department at Altnagelvin Hospital.
He is the third person to be rescued from the River by FSR volunteers in just over two weeks.
A man and an 18-year-old were pulled from the water in separate incidents earlier this month.
Yesterday afternoon, a man was taken to hospital after he was led to safety from the river by FSR volunteers.
It was the second such incident to occur along the river’s edge within a five day period.
A woman was also led to safety by FSR volunteers on Friday afternoon last.
Last year, FSR volunteers responded to 153 incidents, saving 13 people and leading a further 61 distressed people to safety from the river’s edge.
A further 76 people were approached who volunteers believed needed their interaction and help.
Two bodies were recovered from the river during 2015..
