The young Derry nun killed earlier in the Ecuadorian earthquake will be laid to rest in her home town on Monday next.

Sister Clare Theresa Crockett (33) died when a huge tremor struck Playa Prieta in the South American country on Sunday, April 10.

It is believed the former Nazareth House Primary School and St Cecilia’s College pupil was helping children to safety when a building collapsed, killing her and a number of other people.

The body of Sister Clare, a member of the Home of the Mother Order, is expected to arrive at her family home at Iona Court in the Brandywell area late on Friday night.

Her remains will be removed from there at 11.20am on Monday next for 12.00 noon Requiem Mass in St Columba’s Church, Long Tower.

She will be laid to rest immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.

She is survived by her parents Gerard and Margaret, and sisters Shauna and Megan.
