Man seriously injured in daylight assault in Derry city centre

Police in Derry are appealing for witnesses following an assault in William Street in the city centre.

A 37 year old male was assaulted and was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be life threatening but are described as serious.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:10am on Monday, 15 August, but details have just been announced.

A PSNI spokesperson said there were no descriptions available of the assailants or information about the incident

The spokesperson added: “Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact Police at Strand Road PSNI on 101 quoting CCS1294 17/08/16.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
