Police hunt hit-and-run driver after man knocked down and injured

Police in Derry are hunting a driver after a man was knocked down and injured in a hit-and-run incident in the city.

The victim, who is in his 60s, was knocked on Spencer Road near Newlyn Terrace in the Waterside area between 1.45pm and 2.00pm yesterday.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for a suspected fracture to his hip.

Police have appealed for help in tracing the driver.

Constable Mary Doherty said: “We are appealing for witnesses to the collision to get in touch as soon as possible to assist the investigation.

“In particular, we are appealing for information about the vehicle in question that is described as being a large black coloured vehicle.

“Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact officers at Strand Road Police Station on 101 quoting reference number 756 of 19/08/16.”
