A Derry man living in Brighton was today charged with taking drugs into a prison.

Aaron McCusker appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with a total of eight drugs-related offences.

All the alleged offences were committed on either February 25 or February 26, 2015.

McCusker faces three separate charges of possessing Class A, B and C drugs.

He is also accused of three separate offences of possessing drugs with intent to supply.

He is further charged with taking drugs into Magilligan Prison and a separate offence of trying to take drugs into the same prison.

The court was told that 24-year-old McCusker, who is originally from Derry, was currently living in Brighton.

A police officer told the court that the PSNI had no objection to McCusker, whose address was given on court documents as Wardene Close, Brighton, being released on bail.

District Judge Barney McElholm released him on bail with a cash surety of £1,000.

McCusker was told that he must sign in at a named Brighton police station three times per week and is also not allowed to take any non-prescription drugs.

The case will be before the local magistrates court again on June 24.
