The new-look Brooke Park opened its gates to the public this morning where the community got to see first-hand the £5.6m regeneration project which has transformed the historic site.

There had been some concerns raised over when the public would be allowed access to the park after the official opening party was put back by Derry City and Strabane District Council until next year.

It had been scheduled to place at the beginning of August.

However, despite the park needing some finishing touches, council threw open the gates of the new-look Brooke Park this morning for a so-called 'soft opening', so that the public could visit the upgraded park.

A number of playgroups arrived at the park this morning, where children were delighted to finally get a go on the new play facilities, pictured above.
