Early registration urged for upcoming Marty's 5k Walk/Run

Entries are now being invited for the seventh annual Marty’s 5k Run/Wak, which will take place in Derry on Sunday week, October 2.

The event is in memory of Marty Gallagher, a much respected and gifted member of the local Foyle Valley Athletics Club who lost his life tragically in 2009.

Over 1,000 runners and walkers took part last year and proceeds from the race will again be donated to local charities.

Starting opposite St Brigid’s Collegeon Glengalliagh Road, at 11.00am the route will go along the Glengalliagh Road, turn left up the Skeoge Road and left again at the Buncrana Road to finish line at Templemore Sports Complex.

As large numbers are expected, the organisers would like as many people as possible to register on the Saturday to avoid any deailts on the morning of the race.

Participants should allow approximately 15 minutes to walk/ jog from the Sports Complex to start at St Brigid’s College.

Martin Gallagher senior will act as starter for both the run and the walk, with the walkers getting away just after the runners.
The race fee is £10 and each entrant will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a snack at the finish of the course.

There will be prizes for the usual categories and a perpetual trophy for first male and female runners.

Registration will be at Templemore Sports Complex between noon and 4.00pm Saturday and 9.00-10.30 on the morning of the race.
